Dani Ceballos has seemingly put to bed the suggestion that he could be interested in staying at Arsenal by insisting to Marca that he is not thinking about leaving Real Madrid permanently.
Ceballos seemed to hint that he could be open to staying with the Gunners beyond the end of his loan spell. In comments reported by the Daily Mirror, he suggested that he was happy in North London and voiced his frustration about his lack of game-time with Los Blancos. It was also reported that Arsenal want to sign him permanently.
It led many to believe that Ceballos may be leaving the door open to a permanent move to Arsenal. But the Spaniard has since commented on his future again, and seemed to suggest that he is expecting to return to the Bernabeu in the summer.
“I never thought of leaving permanently,” he told Marca.
“My goal is to succeed at Real Madrid. I’m going to fight to fulfil my dream.”
Some Arsenal fans have not been overly impressed with Ceballos so far. So they may not be too disappointed with the 23-year-old’s latest comments.
However, others were clearly hoping that Ceballos was hinting at wanting a permanent move.
Of course, a lot can change between now and the end of the season. While Ceballos may still have his sights set on a place in Madrid’s side, the La Liga side may decide that he is still not in their plans.
They could choose to sign another player. And if that proves to be the case, then perhaps Ceballos will rethink whether Madrid is the best place for him.
And if he feels that he has found a home at Arsenal by the end of the campaign, perhaps the door to a permanent move may just reopen ever so slightly.
