Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has claimed that the Gunners will be in a position to announce a new signing “shortly”, in response to a Football London question about Runar Alex Runarsson.
With Emiliano Martinez having left the Emirates Stadium and Matt Macey also seeking a move away from Arsenal, the Gunners are in need of bolstering their goalkeeping ranks.
According to the Daily Mail, Runarsson is en route to North London to finalise a £2million move to Arsenal from French outfit Dijon.
The 25-year-old underwent a medical in France yesterday ahead of travelling to London to wrap up his switch, added the report.
“Obviously with the departure of Emi, which is a big loss and someone that I think we all wish the best to for what he has done for the football club as well as the person that he is – we have to replace him,” Arteta told Football London.
“We are looking in the market and I think we will shortly in a position to announce a new signing.”
Although Runarsson struggled for game time at Dijon last season, making just 11 Ligue 1 appearances, he is highly rated by Arsenal goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana, the two having worked together ar Nordsjaelland.
“As soon as he arrived at the club I saw his potential,” Cana is quoted by Nordisk Football as saying in 2017.
“We must not forget that he is only 22 years old (in 2017) and that he still has a lot of room for improvement, he is a goalkeeper who will have a great future.”
With Brentford’s David Raya also being linked with Arsenal, it looks as though there’ll be a lot more speculation – and potential movements – involving Arsenal in the coming weeks.
