‘Masterclass incoming’, ‘excited’: Some Arsenal fans react to Arteta decision in starting XI for tonight’s game

A number of Arsenal fans have praised Mikel Arteta for naming Reiss Nelson in the Gunners’ starting XI for their Europa League clash tonight.

The 20-year-old has struggled for game time at Arsenal in the past year, with just 22 senior appearances for the Gunners last term and seven Premier League starts.

This term, meanwhile, Nelson has featured just three times prior to tonight – cameos off the bench in the Community Shield and Europa League, plus a start in the League Cup win over Leicester.

However, Arteta has opted to name the versatile academy graduate in the XI for the meeting with Irish side Dundalk at the Emirates Stadium tonight.

Needless to say, plenty of Gunners fans are pleased:

Arteta has made 10 changes from the Premier League loss to Leicester last time out, with only Granit Xhaka keeping his place in the starting XI from that game.

New goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson makes his debut, while Cedric Soares, Sead Kolasinac, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Shkodran Mustafi line up in defence.

Xhaka is in midfield alongside Mohamed Elneny and Joe Willock, while Nelson is alongside Eddie Nketiah and Nicolas Pepe in attack.
