Martin Odegaard transfer to Arsenal could force an exit from Mikel Arteta’s side

Arsenal are set to complete a deal to bring Martin Odegaard to the club on loan from Real Madrid within the coming days, but Martin Keown believes the move could have ramifications for Dani Ceballos.

The Gunners are believed to be closing in on signing the Norwegian wonderkid after talks with Madrid in the last few days.

The youngster is expected to come into the side to provide an immediate replacement for Mesut Ozil until the end of the season, when they will likely go after a more experienced playmaker.

But Keown believes Odegaard’s arrival could spell the end of Ceballos’ time at the Emirates.

Speaking to talkSPORT, via The Metro, the former defender praised the decision to get the Norwegian through the door, but expressed doubt over Ceballos’ future.

He said of the Odegaard deal: “I’m assuming Arsenal are all over it.

“He [Odegaard] brings that quality into the midfield. It’s an area Arsenal need to strengthen.

“Does that mean Ceballos will go? He’s on loan as well.

“Is he going to get football? Real Madrid may be concerned, he hasn’t played that much so far.”

Ceballos has enjoyed fairly regular first-team football for Arsenal this season, having played 16 times in the Premier League.

However, he has been forced to come off the bench six times, and has started ten times.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta didn’t give anything away over Ceballos’ future after the Gunners crashed out of the FA Cup on Saturday.

And he remained coy over Odegaard, saying: “I don’t know [if there is an update], obviously we played today and since last night I don’t have any news,”

“I will probably get a few phone calls today and see where we are with every deal.”
