‘We had a very, very weak offer from Aston Villa which we turned down. It was pathetic,’ Villas-Boas told French TV channel Telefoot Chaine after Marseille’s 1-0 defeat by Lens on Wednesday.
‘I hope that he (Sanson) continues to remain professional.’
The midfielder played a key role in the 2019-2020 campaign as Marseille finished second in Ligue 1, scoring five goals and making five assists.

The club are currently enduring a more difficult season and sit sixth in the table, ten points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
Villas-Boas confirmed last weekend that there had been interest in Sanson from English clubs and Marseille are said to value the midfielder at £20million.
‘We’ll see. The transfer window is open, Sanson is a player who is highly rated,’ Villas-Boas told his post-match press conference on Saturday. ‘Officially, we have not received any offers, unless it happened during the match.
‘He is a boy who interests English teams because of his characteristics, and it is possible that something could happen.’
Sanson has two goals and three assists in 12 games. He has recently returned from a spell on the sidelines with a muscle injury.
The former France U21 international contract with Marseille expires in 2022.
