That is the opinion of Gunners legend Marc Overmars.
After Ajax’s success last year, several of their star players are being snapped up this summer.
Frenkie de Jong has joined Barcelona, while Matthijs de Ligt is nearing a move to Juventus.
Ziyech is another player linked with a big-money switch, after registering 21 goals and 24 assists last term while playing mainly on the right-wing.
“I would say sell him (Ozil) and you will get Hakim for half”
It is widely known that Arsenal boss Unai Emery is looking to boost his options on the flanks, with Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan his only current options.
So former Gunners winger and Ajax director of football Overmars thinks the Spaniard should take a punt on Ziyech, suggesting they offload Ozil to fund a move for the Moroccan.
“I am a bit surprised that it is still so quiet around Hakim,” Overmars told Voetbal International.
“I think he has played better every year and his statistics are exceptionally good. Many clubs are increasingly looking at that.
“They look more at the numbers than at what he shows and what is happening around him. I think Hakim Ziyech is better than Mesut Ozil.
“I would say sell him (Ozil) and you will get Hakim for half. But they (Arsenal) didn’t listen to me. So it could just be that he stays with Ajax.”
Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan agrees with Overmars’ assessment of Ziyech.
The journalist also thinks his incredible work rate would suit Emery’s style to a tee – something he has clashed with Ozil about in the past.
Van der Kraan told the Transfer Window podcast when asked which Eredivisie player could have the biggest impact on the Premier League: “Hakim Ziyech. Creativity always pays off and he has more in his tank than people think.
“He can run all day, he makes tackles, he helps to defend and yet he looks a lean player – he is not the biggest built guy in the world. But what he has contributed to Ajax has been fantastic this [last] season.
“This year he’s had so many great assists and so many fantastic moves in all of these Champions League games where the crows was just in awe of him. I would sign him.”
