Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has poked fun at Arsenal and their pursuit of Houssem Aouar.
The Gunners are keen on the playmaker as they search for a new central midfielder with Atletico Madrid ace Thomas Partey also on their radar.
But they are in a tricky financial predicament and have so far been unable to fund a move.
The Gunners are understood to be looking to offload a string of fringe players in order to fund a move for a new midfielder.
And Aulas could not resist poking fun at the fact the Gunners are either unwilling or unable to fund a move for their star man, who has been given a £44million price tag.
Asked if Arsenal are likely to agree a deal for Aouar, Aulas told journalist Chris Wheatley: “No I don’t think so.
“No offer yet. It seems that Arsenal don’t want to – or can’t – invest the price for Houssem, who is our best player.”
Despite Aulas’ jibe, manager Mikel Arteta insisted he is under no pressure to sell players not in his immediate plans.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday, he said: “No. Again, with all the players that we have here, we’re going to try to get the best out of them.
“We’re going to try to improve them as much as we possibly can and create the right environment for them so that they are happy at the club, because
“I believe it’s the most important thing for them to perform to the level that we want. After that, obviously in the market there are things that we cannot control.
“There are things that we can control and let’s try to manage in the best possible way.”
Asked directly about Partey and Aouar, Arteta remained tight-lipped, replying: “Sorry, unfortunately I cannot talk about players that are not at our club but I appreciate the question.”
