Dominik Szoboszlai, Red Bull Salzburg’s 18-year-old midfielder, made his first appearance at Anfield on Wednesday night.
His side were narrowly edged out following a spirited second-half performance that saw the Austrians come back from three goals down.
But Szoboszlai may find Anfield to be a more regular surrounding if Liverpool choose to act on their interest.
The Reds and Arsenal have both been linked with the teenager, who has impressed over the past 18 months.
So how did he fare on Merseyside? Starsport kept tabs on Szoboszlai before his exit on 70 minutes to give you the lowdown.
In a sentence – solid performance, showed glimpses in a side that had to defend for large periods, will almost certainly get better.
Short, but sweet.
Szoboszlai started out on the left, but a formation change towards the end of the opening 45 saw him adopt a more central role.
He was certainly more effective from then on and is keen to get on the ball.
His composure in midfield isn’t quite matched by his composure in the 18 yard box, but experience may change that.
The teenager has the demeanour of a player who always wants the ball. He frequently looked for the space to ensure he was available.
He spent parts of last season in Austria’s second tier with Liefering so looking so at home in Europe’s top competition is a testament to him.
Szoboszlai missed a guilt-edge chance with the game in the balance and, had his first touch been better, could’ve manufactured another chance for himself.
His quick thinking was vital for Salzburg’s second goal as he sent Hwang Hee-Chan down the left who provided the assist.
That was perhaps the moment that best summed him up. Quick thinking, keen to be involved and competent enough to execute.
At his tender age its tough to gage whether improvement will be linear, but based on this display he’s certainly worth further investigation.
Liverpool and Arsenal would be wise to ramp up the interest levels ever so slightly.
