Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers backs introduction of concussion substitutes

Brendan Rodgers has backed the introduction of concussion substitutes in the Premier League following the injuries to Raul Jimenez and David Luiz in the latest round of matches.

Jimenez suffered a fractured skull which required surgery and he is under observation in a London hospital, after colliding with Luiz, who was taken off at half-time during Wolves‘ 2-1 win at Emirates Stadium.

Leicester boss Rodgers said: ‘Looking at the incident at Arsenal and some previous ones, it’s a valid point. The collision was awful and I hope Raul Jimenez recovers well from the operation.

‘There is a definitely a question to be asked about concussion substitutions.

‘If they’d been available, Arsenal would have been able to take David Luiz off for a longer period. It is something to be looked at.’

Following Monday’s surprise home defeat by Fulham, Rodgers is expected to rest a number of his senior players for the Europa League tie at Zorya Luhansk.

With the Foxes’ place in the last 32 already secured, Rodgers hopes to give some playing time to three key men who have missed much of the season through injury – Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi and Caglar Soyuncu.

Pereira has not played since March due to damaged cruciate knee ligaments but has been in full training for much of last month.
