Chelsea midfielder, Jorginho, has admitted that there were some discussions over a potential move to Arsenal this summer.
The 28-year-old was linked with a move to The Emirates over the summer but stayed at Stamford Bridge in the end. He has since become a vital cog for Frank Lampard’s midfield, sitting deep while the Blues look to bed their wealth of new attacking talent into the squad.
But the Italian international, who earns a reported £110k-a-week with Chelsea, has told ESPN that discussions were indeed held over a potential switch to north London.
“I believe that every player is open to negotiations. So I believe there was something they talked about. And in the end it was decided, chosen that I stay here.
“And now my head is here and we’re going to do a great job with Chelsea, which I always wanted to do.”
Jorginho arrived at Chelsea from Napoli after being a favourite of Maurizio Sarri. Ever since the Italian boss moved back to Italy, Jorginho has been linked with a move away from The Bridge.
However, Lampard has seemingly found a way to get the best from his man. Cool under pressure, the midfielder is the regular penalty take for the Blues and has already scored three times this term.
Arsenal, meanwhile, ended up signing Thomas Partey instead. The Ghana star joining on deadline day for around £50m.

And that’s exactly the mould Jorginho is in. He just goes about his business with minimal fuss and professionalism. But he is also a quality footballer who some seem to overlook.
In this Chelsea team, he is vital, given his experience and positional sense in midfield.
Arsenal won’t be too fussed they missed out given they landed Partey, but it is easy to see why Mikel Arteta eyed a move for him.
