Arsenal get back to Premier League action when we take on Leicester City at the Emirates on Sunday night. This is the team I’d like to see Mikel Arteta select for the game…
Bernd Leno had a nightmare against Rapid Vienna and it’s safe to say he needs to work on his distribution but obviously he’s still going to keep his place between the sticks. Alex Runarsson isn’t ready to compete for the No.1 shirt anytime soon.
Gabriel was outstanding in the Europa League win on Thursday so he’ll keep his place while David Luiz should also start as Rob Holding has been ruled out for three weeks with a hamstring injury.
Kieran Tierney was rested for Arsenal’s game against Rapid Vienna so he’ll come back into the back three with Sead Kolasinac making way after another below average performance last time out.
Cedric Soares had another uninspiring outing last night so it will be good to have Hector Bellerin back on the right flank while I hope Bukayo Saka keeps his place on the left – although I wouldn’t be surprised if Ainsley Maitland-Niles starts.
Thomas Partey! What can I say….what a full debut! He’s going to be a colossal player for Arsenal and I hope Arteta sticks with him against Leicester as we’ll be a weaker team without him. The boy has everything.
Dani Ceballos could be back after missing the trip to Austria with a bruised ankle but it may be prudent to go with Granit Xhaka alongside Partey for now. I’m not sure what Arteta’s long-term vision is in midfield [apparently he wants to go 4-3-3] but I do like the idea of Partey-Ceballos eventually, if he sticks with two in the middle.
Obviously Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be recalled to the starting eleven after coming off the bench to seal the win for Arsenal on Thursday night. Eddie Nketiah will make way after a disappointing outing against Vienna.
Nicolas Pepe did alright in the Europa League win and he set-up the equaliser but I still think he’s capable of doing a lot more. Willian missed the Vienna game with a knock but hopefully he’s passed fit to return on the right wing for Arsenal.
Alexandre Lacazette was poor last night and he doesn’t look fully fit to me but he’s probably still a better option that Nketiah so I’d stick with the Frenchman.
This would be my Arsenal XI vs Rapid Vienna:
