Ian Wright has heaped praise on Arsenal defender Gabriel despite the Gunners currently being in horrific Premier League form.
The ex-Arsenal star was covering the game against Wolves for Premier League Productions and feels the Brazilian has been in good form.
Gabriel arrived at the Emirates Stadium for £23 million (BBC Sport) in the summer transfer window from Ligue 1 outfit Lille.
The 22-year-old has started nine of Arsenal’s 10 games in the Premier League, scoring twice for his new club.
His defending has caught the eye and there is hope that he can be a big player for the Gunners for years to come.
Wright is an Arsenal legend and he has spared the centre-back from any criticism, despite the club’s current struggles.
He told Premier League Productions: “You have just got a player who is determined to get in.
“To be honest he’s done pretty well, he’s hit a couple of stray passes, but if we’re looking for someone at Arsenal who is a shining light, he’s one of them.
“I’m not going to dig him out too much, he’s doing the best he can.”
TBR View – Gabriel proving worth every penny for the Gunners
The £50,000-a-week is already looking like a player who is capable of playing in the Premier League for many years.
Arsenal fought off some stiff competition to land the youngster and their decision to sign him is already showing signs of promise.
Gabriel has been one of Mikel Arteta’s better players this season and Wright is correct to not dig him out.
The challenge for the Arsenal boss is to build a team around players like Gabriel and quickly establish a winning formula for his side.
