Ian Wright has urged Unai Emery to stick with Dani Ceballos for Arsenal’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday’s north London derby at The Emirates.
The Spain Under-21 international completed a season-long loan move to Arsenal from La Liga side Real Madrid in July to bolster their midfield options.
Ceballos received the man of the match award in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Burnley at The Emirates on his full debut last month.
But the on-loan Real Madrid star was suffocated by Liverpool FC’s midfield last weekend as Arsenal suffered a 3-1 loss at Anfield.
Ceballos struggled to shine in his first big test in the Premier League to raise concerns about his ability to adapt.
However, former Arsenal striker Wright wants to see Ceballos in Emery’s starting XI for their clash against Tottenham at The Emirates on Sunday.
“We’ve got Dani for what… a year? He may not sign again, so let’s use him as much as we can,” Wright told his YouTube channel.
“I’m sure he was disappointed about the role he had to play in the Liverpool game, so let’s play him right behind those three and let’s get going.
“Torreira and Guendouzi behind him snapping around people. Get the ball into Ceballos who can then get Pepe free, get Auba free, link it up into Lacazette, Lacazette holds it up, Auba scores and we’re back again!”
Ceballos earned plenty of plaudits for his standout performances in the European Under-21 Championship during the summer.
Arsenal won the race to sign Ceballos on loan for the 2019-20 season after interest from a number of European clubs.
Spurs drew 2-2 with Manchester City at The Etihad before a 1-0 loss to Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium last weekend.
