Ian Wright ‘hopeful’ Arsenal sign £50m-rated star, same agent as Jack Wilshere

Ian Wright has told Premier League Productions – as per the Metro – that he is still “hopeful” that Arsenal can complete a deal to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar in the upcoming transfer windows, suggesting he is the final piece in the jigsaw.

Arsenal suffered a 1-0 loss to Leicester City on Sunday evening, with new summer signing Thomas Partey completing the entire 90 minutes in the middle of the park. Arsenal seemed to lack creativity from the middle of the park, though.

Aouar, meanwhile, has since become a France international and at just 22 years of age, he already has 143 appearances to his name for Lyon. Last season, he stood out – having a hand in a whopping 19 goals from midfield.

Arsenal legend Wright applauded the signing of Partey ahead of Sunday’s defeat, but stated that he still believes Arsenal need Lyon star Aouar and that he is hopeful the Gunners can pull off the signing of Aouar – who is rated at £50million (Metro).

“Already from his [Partey’s] first game he’s got more interceptions individually than the rest of Arsenal’s midfield,” Wright told PLP, as per the Metro. “He’s somebody that can win the ball but he can progress the ball.

“They still need more, he’s not the main one and that’s why Arsenal went for Houssem Aouar as well. I’m hoping they can still get him at some stage but Partey is a massive improvement on what Arsenal have got.”

TBR’s view – Aouar would be a stunning signing for Arsenal

But many Gunners fans already know this. The French midfielder is the perfect long-term replacement for Mesut Ozil. What he may lack in terms of creativity compared to prime Ozil, Aouar makes up for in hard work.

Early signs suggest that Aouar is the perfect Ozil-like player for Mikel Arteta’s style of football. At £50million, he is an expensive buy but he would clearly improve the Gunners given he has already starred on the Champions League stage. Wright, is right.

TransferMarkt claim he is looked after by the same agency as both Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott.
