Arsenal kicked off their summer 2019 spending with the capture of Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano.
With the second international break of the season now in full swing, it seems a good time to assess how the 19-year-old has fared so far.
Unlike David Luiz, Martinelli was actually linked with his move to Arsenal for several months before it happened.
The teenager had caught the eye over in Brazil, after scoring 10 goals in 34 appearances for Ituano.
The youngster, who says he models his game on Cristiano Ronaldo, was apparently being tracked by a host of clubs across Europe, but agreed a ‘long-term’ contract with the Gunners on July 2.
How’s he looked so far?
Three months into his Arsenal career, Martinelli has surprised a few people.
He’s only been handed four appearances by Unai Emery, but the lively South American has already scored four goals, with two of those coming against Standard Liege in the Europa League last week.
The star, who can play on the left or through the middle, has showcased a good turn of pace and strong technical ability during his 213 minutes of pitch time so far, and fans should certainly be excited about his potential.
Martinelli is most definitely a hit, especially considering not too much was expected of him.
Given his age and what he cost, he could have been forgiven for having little to no impact at all for the first-team by this stage of the season, but he’s got the Arsenal faithful excited about what he can bring.
If he keeps making the most of his chances in the cup competitions, then a Premier League start will come his way sooner rather than later.
