Spanish football expert, Guillem Balague, has said Martin Odegaard wants to join Real Sociedad, despite interest from Arsenal.
Odegaard has been linked with a move to the Gunners in the past day after it emerged he was keen to leave Madrid on loan in order to get regular game time under his belt.
And speaking to the BBC today, Balague has confirmed that the Norwegian would prefer a move back to Sociedad in an ideal world.
“He wants to go to Real Sociedad and they want him. They’re waiting on Real Madrid’s decision,” Balague said.
“Arsenal are not the only Premier League club who have made enquiries about him but he would like to go back to Real Sociedad. The adaptation process will be easier there and all he wants is to play.”
Balague’s comments will be a blow to Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, who had hoped to see the young Madrid star arrive in January to help their creative options in the final third.
Odegaard spent last season with Sociedad and impressed greatly. The Spanish outfit are open to his return, too, meaning a deal could very much be in the offing.
TBR View: A blow for Arsenal but always likely
Odegaard is not wanting to leave Madrid permanetly but as Balague says, he wants football and regular football at that.
He’s played a matter of minutes since December for Los Blancos and it is hindering his development after such an impressive display last season while out on loan.
Arsenal will probably stick at trying to land him but for now, it seems he’s off to Sociedad barring a miracle.
