Harry Redknapp predicts points difference between Arsenal and Liverpool, it is hard to argue

Harry Redknapp has told Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast show on TalkSPORT (Tuesday, 08:20am) that Arsenal could struggle to finish in the top-four places of the Premier League, come the end of the campaign.

Arsenal were blown away by Liverpool on Saturday evening, as a Mo Salah-inspired side cruised to a 3-0 lead. A brace from that man Salah – who made David Luiz look average – followed Joel Matip’s opener. Lucas Torreira scored a late consolation.

But the gulf in class was evident in the second half. Liverpool upped it a gear, and Arsenal could not cope. Many are of the belief that Liverpool were not even playing at full capacity.

Former Tottenham manager Redknapp reckons Arsenal are lacking in midfield and in defence, and claimed that the Gunners will finish 30 points behind the top two of Liverpool and Manchester City this season – and will struggle to reach the top four.

“Arsenal are short in midfield, they’re short at the back. I think they’ll be 30 points adrift of the top two, and I don’t see them finishing in fourth,” Redknapp said.

TBR’s view – Arsenal will challenge for top four, but Redknapp is right

Indeed, it is obvious to football fans that both Manchester City and Liverpool will fight it out for the top places. Whoever wins, will finish one place above the other. Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be the next best, and finish in third.

So it is between Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea for fourth and even though the Gunners have spent big, David Luiz’s performance suggests they are still lacking in a defender to finally shore up the back line.

Last season, 30 points behind second-placed Liverpool will see Arsenal be three points worse off this time around – in fifth place. It seems realistic.
