The 22-year-old was unveiled as a Barca player last week after he completed his £65million move from Ajax.
After catching the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs in the past couple of years, De Jong looked destined for a big-money move away from Amsterdam.

The Holland international envisaged making his dream move to the Nou Camp some day and planned on emulating Ajax’s sporting director Marc Overmars.
Overmars rose to prominence at Ajax before leaving in 1997 to become an integral part of Arsene Wenger’s side at Arsenal, where he won the Premier League.
He then joined Barcelona in a £25m switch after three years at Highbury, making him the most expensive Dutch player in history at the time.
‘In my mind I have had the following list for a long time: Ajax-Arsenal-Barcelona, call it the Marc Overmars route,’ De Jong told Voetbal International.
De Jong also admitted his desire to be reunited with former Ajax team-mate Matthijs de Ligt (L)
‘But then again, if you can go directly to Barcelona, then you are right where you want to be. Faster than you ever dared to dream.’
De Jong also admitted of his desire to be reunited with former Ajax team-mate Matthijs de Ligt, who has been linked with Barca and Juventus.
‘I’d like to see him [De Ligt] here, but I cannot decide,’ he said.
‘He has to make that decision with his family. When I saw Barca wanted me to play here, the decision was very easy.’
