Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has praised teammate Matteo Guendouzi for his fearless start to the new season.
The 20-year-old has been one of the Gunners’ standout performers so far and has drawn praise for playing with maturity well beyond his years.
Guendouzi has certainly gained the full trust of manager Unai Emery, who has opted to start the Frenchman in every Premier League game to date this term.
It sounds as though the £7 million signing from Lorient (Goal) is a popular figure behind the scenes too, and compatriot Lacazette has hailed his progression.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “He is like the younger brother [in the friendship group with me and Auba]! We all really have a good relationship, we like to work and to laugh together so it’s really good.
“I’m really happy for Matteo [for being named September Player of the Month], he played really well, he helped the team when we needed him, he is really improving each season so we are all really happy with his performances this month.
“We can see that every top midfielder in the world is like this [in terms of demanding the ball and being brave]. They all want to take the ball.”
As one of the squad’s senior players, Lacazette’s comments are sure to give Guendouzi a lot of confidence going forwards.
Clearly he and the rest of the team really respect him for his fearless approach to games.
Arguably at this early stage in his career, that is the thing that is setting him apart from a lot of players his age – his willingness to show and reluctance to ever hide.
And it’s as Lacazette says, the world’s best players demand the ball to make things happen, so the fact Guendouzi is already doing it bodes extremely well.
