Darren Bent concerned by Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah’s ‘weird’ situation at Leeds

Eddie Nketiah’s lack of game time at Leeds could seriously hinder his future at Arsenal .

That’s according to ex-Tottenham and England striker Darren Bent.

Nketiah, on a season long loan at Elland Road from the Gunners, is yet to start in the Championship.

The 20-year-old has scored twice off the bench in the league, also bagging in both Carabao Cup matches he started.

Nketiah also scored a brace for England U-21’s in their win over Turkey last week.

But his chances of starting for Leeds are still looking thin, with Patrick Bamford keeping him out of the side.

Bent admits things are probably a bit “weird” for Nketiah right now as he considers his options.

Looking ahead to his potential moves next season, the 35-year-old admits things might not be plain sailing for Nketiah if he is targeting a place in Unai Emery’s first team.

“He is playing well and Leeds are in a bit of a funny one at the minute. Patrick Bamford puts in such a shift for the team and that’s why he’s probably still in there,” Bent told Football Insider.

“Eddie Nketiah, to be fair to him, is still sticking the ball in when he’s getting the opportunities. It’s a bit of a weird one because it’s where does Eddie Nketiah go from here?

“If he continues like he is at the minute, through no fault of his own – it’s just that the team are preferring Bamford – what happens to him next season?

“He’s not going to go back to Arsenal and play, not with the firepower they’ve got there already, so they’re going to be looking for another loan.

“You’re thinking: ‘A loan, again, really?’ So this is a big season for him.”

Danny Mills has also given his opinion on Nketiah’s situation , claiming Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa “clearly doesn’t trust” the youngster.
