The door may be about to open for Arsenal to sign Dennis Praet, with Sampdoria reportedly on the verge of completing a deal for Gonzalo Maroni.
The Serie A club are reported by Tuttomercatoweb to be close to signing the Boca Juniors starlet on loan, with an option to buy for €15 million (£13.3 million).
The Argentine youngster made 19 appearances on loan at Club Atlético Talleres, and has previously interested the likes of Inter and AC Milan.
If the move comes to fruition as expected, then it could be good news for Arsenal, who have reportedly been chasing Belgium midfielder Praet to replace Juventus-bound Aaron Ramsey.
Maroni is an attacking midfielder and operates in the same role as Praet.
The fact that the club are moving for him certainly seems to suggest that the 25-year-old will be departing – there would be little point in having both.
The Gunners have recently been linked with a double raid on Sampdoria involving Praet and his teammate Joachim Andersen (Gazzetta dello Sport, via Football Italia).
With the latest development, it would seem one half of that proposed deal is looking good for the north London giants.
