Patrick Vieira has been quoted as saying that it would be a dream to take over at Arsenal as manager, and Gunners fans have considered the possibility of the Invincibles captain sitting in the Emirates dugout.
Vieira, 43, is a legend among Arsenal fans after clocking up more than 400 appearances for the north Londoners during nine years in red and white. He won three Premier League titles, as well as three FA Cups.
Since retiring after spells with Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City, Vieira has since entered the world of management. He won 40 of his 90 games in charge at MLS outfit New York City, and has just taken charge of his 50th game for OGC Nice.
Quoted by French website Le 10 Sport, Vieira described it as a “dream” to return to Arsenal and manage the Gunners – or indeed the France national team – going on to say he wants to be in charge of a Premier League side.
“Is it my dream to coach Arsenal of France? Yes, like any player, when we do this job we went to reach the highest level,” Vieira said. “I do this job to one day coach a team that participates in the Champions League.”
Unai Emery is currently in charge at Arsenal but there have been recent reports that the Spanish boss will be given his marching orders by the Gunners board, if he fails to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League come May.
Arsenal fans have reacted to Vieira’s comments with the majority excited at the prospect of the return of Vieira, which would see him come back to Arsenal – 14 years after he left The Gunners in the summer of 2005 to move to Juventus.
I’d love to see him get it one day
