Brad Friedel believes Tottenham Hotspur still have an edge over Arsenal ahead of their north London derby clash at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
Arsenal are currently in third place in the Premier League table and two points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur despite their 3-1 loss to Liverpool FC last weekend.
The Gunners saw their perfect start to the Premier League season come to an end after goals from Joel Matip and Mohamed Salah sealed a comfortable win for the Reds.
Spurs suffered a surprise 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to drop points for the second successive Premier League fixture.
Although Tottenham have finished in the top four and Arsenal have missed out on a Champions League spot in the last three seasons, the Gunner’s summer transfer activity has generated some fresh optimism at The Emirates.
Former Spurs goalkeeper Friedel believes Tottenham still have an edge on Arsenal ahead of their clash in the north London derby on Sunday afternoon.
“These games, especially early in the season, you never know how they’ll pan out,” Friedel told US-bookies.com.
“Tottenham have a good group of players who have been with Mauricio (Pochettino) for a long time, and they were unlucky in the game v Newcastle. Arsenal, on the other hand, won their first two and came up against a very talented Liverpool side.
“I don’t know if you can put a favourite on this match, I think overall Tottenham are a little ahead of Arsenal, but Arsenal have outstanding players and a very good head coach.
“It’s a tough one to call but I’m obviously going for Tottenham.”
Arsenal have failed to finish in the top four in the last three seasons under Arsene Wenger and his successor Unai Emery.
Tottenham, on the other hand, have secured a Champions League spot in the last four seasons under Mauricio Pochettino.
