Patrick Vieira has reportedly urged his Nice board to bring in Arsenal defender William Saliba on loan in the January transfer window as Saliba continues to struggle for game time at the Emirates – and Arsenal fans have responded.
Saliba, 19, joined Arsenal in the summer of 2019 after breaking into the St. Etienne side. He returned to Les Verts on loan for the 2019-20 campaign but injury hampered his progress, stunting his momentum.
It meant the France Under-20 international linked up with Arsenal in the summer having failed to enjoy as much first-team game time as Mikel Arteta would have hoped for. Since returning to Arsenal, things have got worse.
The centre-back has failed to make his Arsenal debut and has instead been playing for the club’s reserves. A return to St. Etienne has been touted, but a new report claims Invincibles captain Vieira could take him to Nice.
French site ButFootballClub.FR say Vieira – who is under pressure as manager of Nice with the club sitting in 11th after 11 games – has urged his board to consider a move for £40,000-a-week (Spotrac) defender Saliba.
Arsenal supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reports that Vieira could sign Saliba in the coming weeks, as the January window approaches. Many are all for the idea of Saliba playing under the Gunners legend, on loan.
Saliba to join Vieira at Nice? Could be good for us in long-term. Let him play and simultaneously hear about what playing for The Arsenal ‘can’ be about.

I’d love for Saliba to go on loan with Vieira for 6 months. He’d shape him into a proper player with the proper Arsenal mentality
