Granit Xhaka has been slammed by pundits and football fans alike after a thoughtless challenge towards the end of the first-half in the north London derby.
Harry Kane smashed the resulting penalty home to double Spurs’ lead at the Emirates.
But Alexandre Lacazette scored on the stroke of half-time to minimise the damage of Xhaka’s foul at the opposite end.
That didn’t stop the Swiss midfielder from receiving a barrage of abuse during the interval, however.
Graeme Souness in the Sky Sports studio went to town on Xhaka, accusing him of not knowing the most basic of concepts when it comes to defending.
“This is something you learn in your first week as a professional footballer, stay on your feet at all times,” he said.
“Especially in the box, it’s an invitation for Son to go down.
“Xhaka is 26-years-old, disgraceful.”
Arsenal fans also weren’t happy with Xhaka’s recklessness and were joined by Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp, who also couldn’t believe what they had seen.
“Absolute madness from Xhaka,” said Neville, on commentary.
“He does it week in, week out. Season after season.
“He doesn’t seem to learn.”
Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka branded ‘disgraceful’ by Graeme Souness after Tottenham foul
“It was a ridiculous tackle to make,” added Redknapp.
Arsenal rescued the result with a second-half goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The point means Arsenal remain fifth in the Premier League.
Tottenham, meanwhile, continue to struggle with only one win from their first four league games.
