The Gunners forward is regarded by many to be one of the club’s best players but his representative was searching for a new home for the the Frenchman.
Cheltzov revealed that he informed Zenit of Lacazette’s £61million release clause, a price that was dismissed as ‘crazy’.
Alexandre Lacazette was offered to Zenit St-Petersburg in the summer, claims his agent
‘I offered Alexandre Lacazette to Zenit. Their sporting director Javier Ribalta said to me: ‘Are you crazy? His release clause is £61m.’
‘I told him you can negotiate with Arsenal. I am sure they will be ready to accept something between £43m and £48m. His salary would be £7m after tax.’
The 28-year-old has scored twice in three Premier League games this season under Unai Emery and is currently recovering from an ankle injury.
In spite of Cheltzov’s claims, Lacazette is not understood to have a release clause in his contract with the Gunners.
The Arsenal forward has looked sharp in front of goal this season but is currently out injured
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lacazette are both thought to favour the central striker role
Having missed international duty with France, the striker is anticipated to return to full training ahead of the next game against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Both Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are out-and-out strikers vying for a central role in the team, meaning there is perhaps a risk the former Lyon man could become frustrated.
Aubameyang is preferred at the man to lead the line but as it stands Lacazette is not thought to be interested in leaving the Emirates.
