Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal could join La Liga side Real Sociedad in a matter of hours, it’s claimed.
Unai Emery spent lavishly this summer despite suggestions that the Gunners were skint.
But with the European transfer window still open, he now looks set to lighten his ranks.
Monreal, 33, has been an Arsenal stalwart in recent years.
The Spaniard has made nearly 200 appearances for the club since signing from Malaga in 2013.
However, he now looks set to end his six-year stay in north London and move to San Sebastian.
According to Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo , Monreal and Sociedad have agreed terms.
It’s claimed a two-year deal is on the table with an option for a third depending on appearances.
Monreal will pocket around £50,000 a week in his homeland for the first year, although will then take a pay cut.
Arsenal and Sociedad are yet to formally rubber stamp a transfer fee, but it’s thought an agreement is close.
The La Liga outfit only want to pay a nominal sum on account of Monreal’s advancing years.
Arsenal now have Kieran Tierney at their disposal but the Scotland international is recovering from injury.
The 22-year-old cost a hefty £25m following protracted negotiations with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
David Luiz was also snapped up by Emery earlier this month after a last-gasp deal was struck with Chelsea.
Despite Emery’s carefree summer spending, Arsenal were outclassed by Liverpool on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side secured a comfortable 3-1 win at Anfield and Monreal played the full 90 minutes.
“After 2-0 our reaction was good,” Emery said after the match.
“We needed to attack and take a different moment in the match. We are disappointed we lost 3-1 but watching some players we can be optimistic.
“We need to improve in possession and countering the pressure but Liverpool is the best team with this. We have to be realistic but we can fight closer to them.”
