Despite a relatively disappointing season for Arsenal, two stars emerged at the Gunners this year.
They were strike duo Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, who have formed a lethal partnership up front under Unai Emery’s guidance.
Lacazette went on to pick up the club’s Player of the Year award, scoring 19 goals, including 13 in the league.
But it was Aubameyang who drew most of the plaudits, as he romped to the Premier League Golden Boot award with 22 goals, also adding a further nine in other competitions.
“We are representing Africa so it is a good sign for the continent”
The Gabon captain has opened up a month after scooping the coveted trophy, which he shared with Liverpool pair Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
And Aubameyang has revealed that he an admirer of the two wingers, hailing their impact on African football.
“It meant a lot to win the Golden Boot,” Aubameyang told the club’s official website.
“I am really happy and proud of it, especially to share the trophy with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Aubameyang’s confession comes amid news that:
“I really like these two guys. We are representing Africa so it is a good sign for the continent.”
Aubameyang also spoke about his new found partnership with Lacazette, and how it had helped him to adjust to life at the Emirates.
The 30-year-old also insists the Frenchman heavily aided his bid for the Golden Boot last season.
“I’ve been lucky enough to play alongside some really good players throughout my career and Laca is definitely one of them,” Aubameyang continued.
“Last season was the first full season that I’d played with another striker like him, and I’m really happy with how well we worked together.
“We have the same vision about football when we talk in the dressing room, the same ideas and the same feelings. The fact that we understand each other is the thing that makes the difference in the games.
“That relationship definitely helped me to win the Golden Boot last season. It was a tough year, but I had the chance to score goals, because the team played a great season.
“Of course the last months were not the best in the Premier League, but the whole season, we put in a great effort.”
