Arsenal’s deadline day signing David Luiz has two sides to his game like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
That’s according to former Gunners midfielder Emmanuel Petit ahead of tomorrow’s north London derby.
Luiz was a surprise signing by Arsenal boss Unai Emery, who was looking to shore up his defence on a budget.
Former captain Laurent Koscielny forced his way out of the club so Luiz replaced him at a cost of £8m.
The Brazilian brings bags of experience with him but Petit is concerned by his error-prone nature.
The former Chelsea and Paris St-Germain star blundered by giving away a penalty against Liverpool last week.
And former World Cup winner Petit thinks Arsenal fans will witness many more such mistakes before the end of the season. “
David Luiz is like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, like The Hulk and Bruce Banner,” he told Paddy Power.
“He can do great things in terms of leadership and aggression, spirit and mentality.
We all know his warrior qualities, but we also know that he be off his game for many reasons, and that he takes many risks when it comes to positioning and possession.
“You don’t know what to expect of him at any given time.
“He was brought in during the closing stages of the transfer window so he’s a good bargain, but the reality is that if he plays 40 games in a season, he’ll make many individual mistakes.”
Arsenal came from behind to beat Tottenham 4-2 last season in a pulsating clash at the Emirates.
And Petit thinks £72m signing Nicolas Pepe has shown that he has the talent to hurt Spurs tomorrow.
“I thought [Pepe] was the best Arsenal player on the pitch [against Liverpool],” Petit added.
“He was the only one who looked like he was a danger to the Liverpool defence. Every time he got the ball in space, he was a real threat.”
