William Saliba has been discussing his relationship with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, as he continues to have an odd start to life at The Emirates.
The Frenchman cost Arsenal a reported (Football.London) £27 million in the summer of 2019 but was loaned back to Saint-Etienne until the end of the season.
But Arsenal signed Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille this summer and Saliba has, therefore, been having to bide his time waiting for a first-team shot. In fact, he was nearly sent back to Les Verts for another spell out on loan.
However, despite his underwhelming start to life as a full-time Arsenal player, there appears to be no issue between Saliba and Arsenal boss Arteta.
In fact, it seems that Arteta has been keeping in touch with Saliba long before he even made his long-awaited arrival at London Colney in the summer.
“It is a big dream [to play for Arsenal],” Saliba told Ian Wright in a promotional video for the launch of Arsenal’s new Adidas Humanrace kit. “It was a big dream becoming a reality for me
“[Mikel Arteta] is very positive. Sometimes the coach he would send me a message when I was at Saint-Etienne. So it’s good.”
It is great to hear that Arteta appears to have a decent relationship with Saliba. The youngster is undoubtedly a natural talent and some Arsenal fans have been getting scared that, perhaps as an initial Unai Emery signing, Saliba might be something like spoiled goods to Arteta.
Instead, it simply seems as though the youngster is just not yet of the level ready to take a place in Arteta’s starting XI.
Hopefully, in the weeks and months to come, that will change.
