Over the past few days, Arsenal have been heavily linked with Manor Solomon, with the player’s own agents suggesting a deal could be on the cards this year.
On Tuesday, The Guardian said the Gunners were eyeing the Shakhtar Donetsk attacker with a view to a move at the end of the season.
The report acknowledged that Solomon may be expensive due to his contract running until 2023 and the Gunners likely not having the funds for pricey acquisitions this month.
However, he added that Solomon would prefer a move in the summer, one of the reasons being uncertainty about their players’ futures – “at least 10 players would leave Arsenal” – but “we won’t say no to AFC”.
Ben Ezra also believes that Arsenal want Solomon – who can play across the front line – to feature on the wings, but apparently there’s also interest in the player from the “top 15 clubs in the world”, with RB Leipzig mentioned.
And on Thursday, football.london reported that not only is Solomon “highly interested” in a move to the Emirates Stadium, but that the player has tasked “super-agent” Pini Zahavi to help him make contact with Premier League clubs with a view to a summer move.
Apparently, Zahavi offered the Israel international to the Gunners’ former head of football Raul Sanllehi in May 2020 before the Spaniard left the club last summer, is involved in talks between club and player, and is currently in touch with Edu.
A lot of signs pointing towards Arsenal and Solomon potentially linking up this year, and if the deal goes over the line, they’d have a superb talent on their hands.
Solomon has become a key player for Shakhtar, who impressed in the Champions League group stages this season before dropping down to the Europa League.
The skilful winger scored in both group stage matches against Real Madrid, while in the previous season he netted against Manchester City, and he also scored a brilliant winner for Israel in their Nations League win over Scotland two months ago.
Solomon predominately plays on the left wing for Shakhtar but has also been used on the opposite flank and in the No.10 role behind the striker – while Arteta is in particular need of a bona fide left winger, the player’s versatility is an added bonus.
His style of play is very much flair-based, a technically gifted player who has been compared to Eden Hazard and Pedro Neto, and his young age means he has plenty of time to develop further, not to mention his value would go up if he continues on an upward trajectory, something all the signs are pointing to.
Given the advancing ages of the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Willian in the front line, a player like Solomon could well become the next big thing, and Arteta definitely needs to be proactive when it comes to bolstering his ranks.
