According to the Daily Record, Arsenal have opted to abandon their pursuit of Kieran Tierney. The Gunners have already had three bids for the left-back rejected by Celtic this summer. Clearly, despite the 22-year-old apparently being keen on a switch to the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal feel that an agreement cannot be reached with the Scottish outfit.
Unai Emery will be desperately disappointed with this outcome following the long-running saga. The left-back position is a key one for the Spanish coach to address this summer. With Nacho Monreal ageing, he can no longer be relied upon to start in the Premier League every week. On top of that, Sead Kolasinac has deficiencies in his game and is prone to defensive errors.
With Tierney seemingly off the table, Arsenal must now look elsewhere for a new left-back. The Gunners should therefore revive their interest in Nicolas Tagliafico.
The Express reported back in April that Arsenal were keen on the Ajax defender, but he preferred a switch to Serie A. It was clear then that the 17-cap Argentina international wanted to move on from the Amsterdam giants. However, a move to Italy has as yet failed to materialise. Therefore, Tagliafico may now be more open to a switch to north London, with the transfer deadline now much closer.
Tagliafico enjoyed a fine campaign last time out, and has what it takes to flourish in the Premier League. The 26-year-old would be a great signing for the Gunners, and would arrive ready to take up the mantle of first choice left back under Emery.
