Arsenal could pull off a “special” deal to sign Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Dominik Szoboszlai in the January transfer window, it has been claimed.
The Gunners are in need of winter reinforcements after suffering their worst start to a league campaign since 1981/82, with Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves their third straight loss at the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta ’s biggest problem this season has been scoring goals; star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has only netted two in the Premier League so far, and just one from open play, while their overall tally of 10 is lower than 17th-place Fulham’s (11).
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Szoboszlai could be the answer to Arsenal’s offensive woes at the turn of the year.
Arteta is also understood to still be keen on prising Houssem Aouar away from Lyon, having missed out on a deal for the France midfielder in the summer and autumn window.
Romano told the Que Golazo Podcast that something “special” is brewing in north London – and Gunners chiefs have reportedly had their eye on Szoboszlai for a number of years.
The Salzburg sensation has produced a string of breathtaking displays for club and country this season, bagging a spectacular last-minute winner to send Hungary to next summer’s delayed Euro 2020 tournament in their play-off clash with Iceland.
He has also registered eight goals and nine assists in 16 outings for Salzburg so far in the 2020/21 campaign.
Szoboszlai got on the scoresheet in their recent Champions League meetings with Lokomotiv Moscow and Atletico Madrid, before fluffing a glorious chance against Bayern Munich.
It is believed the Austrian club’s sister team, RB Leipzig, and Tottenham are also interested in signing him.

Arsenal appear in much greater need of his attacking inspiration, however, with Leipzig two points adrift of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich and Spurs currently occupying top spot in the Premier League.
The Gunners are due to go away to their north London rivals next weekend in what promises to be a make-or-break derby encounter for Arteta.
