Arsenal are preparing to make a £40m bid for RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano, reports say.
Unai Emery has come under some huge pressure in recent times after swathes of fans begging for his exit.
It comes after a shock 1-0 loss to Sheffield United in the Premier League on Monday night.
The Gunners have seen their away form disintegrate since their opening win on the road to Newcastle .
They have not won a single game in the league away from the Emirates and Emery wants some reinforcements in defence.
The likes of Sokratis and David Luiz have hardly proved a stable pairing at the back.
And it has led to the Gunners eyeing a £40m move for RB Leipzig ace Upamecano, according to The Sun.
The Frenchman has been getting rave reviews for his defending and ability on the ball, exactly the kind of player Emery loves in defence.
The 20-year-old could be looking to leave the Bundesliga club as he is yet to put pen to paper over a new contract.
His current terms expire at the end of next season and Leipzig may cash in to save losing him for nothing.
And a move could be planned by Arsenal in January as they look to improve their squad in the race for the top four.
However, The Sun also report that failing that another approach could be made in the summer.
Luiz was signed in the summer from Chelsea but his arrival was only supposed to be a short-term solution.
There is already one defender on the way to the Emirates after William Saliba was signed in the transfer window – but he was loaned back to Saint-Etienne for the season.
