Arsenal are in talks with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over an extension to the striker’s contract.
Aubameyang equalled Dennis Bergkamp’s record by scoring in the first seven Premier League games of the season.
The Gabon international has scored 49 goals in 75 appearances for the club since joining from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.
Although he still has two years to run on his deal, Arsenal are keen to tie him down for even longer.
According to Italian Journalist Nicolò Schira talks are underway to renew Aubameyang’s contract until 2023.
The Gunners are adamant they will not repeat the mistakes which have seen the likes of Aaron Ramsey leave on free deals in recent years.
Aubameyang is loved by Arsenal fans but his reputations among Gabon supporters is not so good due to a series of disputes with the country’s football association.
And the 30-year-old says he is eager to change the image that supporters of the national team have of him.
“I’m vengeful,” Aubameyang told reporters after recent 1-0 win against Burkina Faso. “Things haven’t gone well lately [at international level].
“I want to change this image of me that I might have with the national team. I would rather show another side as a player in terms of performances.”
Aubameyang and Gabon continue their international commitments with a friendly against Morocco in Tangiers on Tuesday.
And the Arsenal striker, who was named Premier League player of the month this week, is prepared to play a leading role over the coming months.
“It’s a new dynamic,” he continued. “We leave with a lot of ambitions. First of all we want to continue working.
“We did not qualify for the last Cup of Nations and I know I can give more on the field.”
