Nicolas Pepe has withdrawn from international duty with Ivory Coast after reporting an injury on Wednesday evening.
However, Pepe’s issues do not appear to be serious and his withdrawal from the setup will now see him return to Arsenal where he will be looking to build up his fitness.
Nicolas Pepe has withdrawn from the Ivory Coast squad for their international matches
A statement from the Ivory Coast Federation confirmed his withdrawal due to injury, but the Gunners’ record £72million signing from Lille is thought to have pulled out the squad more as a precaution.
The winger will now return to the club’s training ground as they prepare for their next match at Watford in just over two weeks’ time.
Pepe arrived late to Arsenal in pre-season following his Africa Cup of Nations duty with Ivory Coast.
He did not feature on the club website’s list of players who would feature on international duty this week.
Pepe has yet to find the net for his new club since making the £72million move in summer
