Arsenal legend explains why player’s Emirates career could genuinely be over

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour reckons Mesut Ozil’s Arsenal career could be done and dusted, with the German having once again been snubbed by manager Unai Emery.

Ozil was left out of the squad to face Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium, just as he was against Standard Liege in the Europa League and Manchester United in the Premier League last Monday.

In total he has made just two appearances so far this season, and it is clear that something is going on behind the scenes.

It is a situation that is beginning to grate on some Arsenal fans, who would rather Ozil play some part rather than none at all given his huge £350,000-a-week wages (Mirror).

It isn’t looking particularly good for the player right now, and ex-Gunners star Parlour believes it could be the beginning of the end for the World Cup winner.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “I’ve been really impressed with the youngster coming through from Arsenal’s point of view. Ozil’s not even in the squad now. I think that’s the end of his career at Arsenal because you’ve got youngsters who deserve an opportunity probably more than him at the moment.

“Saka’s come in on the left-hand side, you’ve got Martinelli – he’s been excellent. Ceballos who played at the weekend. They’ve got lots of options now.”

TBR’s view

Things definitely don’t look good for Ozil at this moment in time, but he surely hasn’t played his last game for the club at this early stage of the season.

Fatigue and injuries are likely to play a big part, meaning Emery is surely going to have to call on the 30-year-old at some point.

It’s clear he doesn’t really suit Emery’s tactics, but it really would be a shock if he doesn’t play again at the Emirates.
