Arsenal have made contact with AS Roma about the possibility of signing Lorenzo Pellegrini this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that the north London side are keen to bring the 22-year-old to The Emirates this summer as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign.
However, it is claimed in the same report that Arsenal are facing competition from a number of top European clubs for Pellegrini’s signature, with Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan and Inter Milan all reportedly interested.
The same story says that AS Roma are in no hurry to sell Pellegrini, with the Serie A side keen to tie Pellegrini down to a new contract to remove the £27m buy-out clause in his deal.
That fee would apparently be payable in two instalments, and that would suit Arsenal following their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Central midfielder Pellegrini scored two goals and made three assists in 25 Serie A games for AS Roma last season.
Arsenal are thought to be looking to bring in a number of key players this summer as they look to bolster their squad ahead of next term.
