According to reports via The Sun, Arsenal have moved into pole position ahead of Tottenham to sign £45m-rated Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos on an initial one-year loan deal.
Unai Emery is desperately trying to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season and midfield is one area of concern as Aaron Ramsey has left to join Juventus on a free transfer after running down his contract.
It looks like Ceballos has been identified as a potential replacement as The Sun are citing a report from Marca that claims Arsenal are favourites ahead of Tottenham to sign the Spanish U21 international this summer.
Sky Sports are also reporting that Arsenal in the race to land Ceballos but they stop short of labelling us as favourites so it appears we have a strong interest in the talented attacking midfielder.
Ceballos has struggled to hold down a regular place in Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven since joining Madrid from Real Betis two years ago and he’s made it clear he wants to be playing 40 games per season next campaign.
That isn’t going to be possible at the Bernabeu as Zidane has reportedly informed the 22-year-old he won’t be part of his first team plans so a move away this summer is required to aid his development.
The Sun says Arsenal are hoping to sign Ceballos on an initial season long loan deal and that could be ideal for us as Emery only has a tight budget to work from this summer. AS claim Ceballos is valued at £45m so there is no way we can afford to pay that this summer and bring in other signings.
If we could land a player as talented as Ceballos on a cheap loan with an option to buy next summer then Emery could use his funds to strengthen at left-back, centre-back and on the wing.
Ceballos would be an excellent signing for Arsenal as he’s a huge talent who just hasn’t been able to fulfill his potential at Madrid so I’d love to see us sign the Spaniard and make him our second signing of the summer following the arrival of Gabriel Martinelli.
