Napoli are battling Arsenal for the Celtic defender who will cost between £20m and £25m.
Celtic have already drafted in a replacement for Tierney in Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo from Rapid Vienna.
And in a further transfer boost to Arsenal, it appears Napoli are prioritising getting Real Madrid’s Rodriguez on board instead of the Scottish defender.
Italian journalist Aurelio Capaldi revealed Rodriguez is the Italian side’s top priority when speaking on the latest episode of the Transfer Window Podcast.
“Kieran Tierney and James Rodriguez are both wanted by Napoli”
“(Carlo) Ancelotti is thinking of James Rodriguez mainly now, because he’s anxious that the deal will be completed,” he said.
“Napoli are still working on that deal, so he’s hopeful to sign James Rodriguez who he had at Real Madrid, because he thinks with Rodriguez they can compete with Juventus for the Italian title.”
Daily Star Scotland columnist Charlie Nicholas thinks Tierney would be a great signing for former club Arsenal.
“I’ve read so many different stories the last few days about how they’ve put a value on him, but the fact is that Kieran Tierney plays in Scotland and that’s where the value of the market is,” he said on Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast.
“I mean, they sold Van Dijk for £12m. So is he a better defender than Van Dijk? No. Is £15m reasonable? I would say that Celtic in the current market could probably get £20m.
“So my pitch would be £20m is a cracking deal for Celtic and it’s also a very good deal for Arsenal. That’s where I see the value.
“People can look and judge in different positions and requirements, and of course I’ve been probably more vocal than anybody else about the need for a whole new back four for Arsenal, but in value terms I find it difficult to break down.”
