Arsenal are reportedly leading the likes of AC Milan and Inter Milan in the race to sign French defender Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.
The Gunners were keen on pursuing a late summer deal for the centre-back but a move failed to materialise with the Bundesliga side demanding more than £70m.
According to Calciomercato, Upamecano’s contract is said to include a release clause which lowers each year and the Gunners fancy their chances of landing their target.
Upamecano’s current deal is due to expire at the end of next season and reports indicate that Leipzig could be tempted to accept a fee of around £50m from the Gunners.
Arsenal have already signed a young centre-back in the form of William Saliba from Saint-Etienne but the Frenchman is only expected to feature for the club next season after being loaned back to the French club.
The north London giants could potentially pair him alongside compatriot Upamecano, who has started the last five games for Leipzig after overcoming a knee injury concern.
