Arsenal boss Unai Emery seemingly wants to make Dani Ceballos’ loan deal permanent and has told club chiefs to make it happen.
There was no option to purchase the midfielder written into the loan deal which saw him arrive from Real Madrid last summer for 12 months.
But Ceballos has taken Mesut Ozil’s role within the team and Emery sees him as an important part in his plans.
Whether a deal is workable remains to be seen, but it is believed that the Spaniard is happy in London and would consider staying.
Ceballos’ girlfriend has moved to the capital and is learning the language alongside her man.
And according to El Confidencial , Gunners chiefs are discussing making Los Blancos an offer to make the deal permanent.
Mateo Kovavic similarly spent a year on loan at London rivals Chelsea last season before joining on a long-term basis in the summer.
Ceballos, 23, was struggling for game time in Madrid but he says leaving the Spanish giants for Arsenal was the right decision.
Being called up by Spain coach Robert Moreno was significant in that he has been recognised for playing regularly under Emery.
Ceballos was asked at Spain’s training base if he had any regrets about that decision, given that Madrid have had injuries in midfield this term.
But he adamant in his response, saying: “Real Madrid are in pretty good shape. I know there are a few injured.
“[But] I’m at Arsenal now, I feel pretty good. I was clear that I wanted to leave. Leaving Madrid was the right decision. Right now, I am where I want to be and I’m very happy.
“My idea was to leave, to play and to enjoy football. In the two previous seasons, I hadn’t done that. It was the right decision. The fact that I’m here with the Spanish national team shows that.”
While a final decision has certainly not been reached, Ceballos’ start to life in London has certainly caught their attention.
