A late goal from substitute Eddie Nketiah sealed an impressive 2-1 over the German champions at Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles.
An own goal by Bayern Munich man Louis Poznanski had given the Gunners a second half lead before Poland hitman Robert Lewandowski levelled the scores with 20 minutes to go.
Emery opted to play several of his senior stars for this one, with Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all starting, before they were replaced by several youngsters later on.
In Arsenal’s first pre-season game of their US tour, a whole host of younger players featured from the start and were able to make themselves known throughout.
Bukayo Saka, James Olayinka, and Gabriel Martinelli all netted in the 3-0 win over Colorado Rapids, while Dominic Thompson, Edward Nketiah, Robbie Burton, Tyreece John-Jules, and Zech Medley all started.
Against Bayern, Joe Willock featured from the beginning and was impressive, while Emiliano Martinez will have caught Emery’s eye too.
The second-half saw the likes of Reiss Nelson, Robbie Burton, Saka, and Tyreece John-Jules all come on as substitutes.
Nketiah only came on with 10 minutes to go and was able to score the winner late on.
“We have the responsibility with the young players to give them chances”
Speaking after the game, Emery was again complimentary of his younger starlets for their display against a tough opponent.
“We have the responsibility with the young players to give them chances,” he said.
“Some players will be with us in the season, each minute they show their performance against big players. For example the one-to-one Nketiah against Sule [was encouraging].
“Will I rely more on them? It depends on their performance. Against Colorado Rapids a lot of young players played. We need them for the moment but also in the future.
“Our responsibility in this club for the history, present and future is to give young players chance. If they deserve minutes they’ll get minutes. I’m very happy with them.”
“We are in the pre-season. Our objective was to take rhythm, take minutes and have confidence playing.
“We want to win every match, this is not the most important but really we can see important things for us, for our ideas.”
Next up for the Gunners is a clash against Serie A side Fiorentina on Saturday night before they face Real Madrid next Wednesday.
