Arsenal boss Unai Emery has told Arsenal TV that Matteo Guendouzi has taken one step ahead this season; whilst the Spaniard also believes he is a very good example for the other younger players.
In an interview published on the club’s official website, the Arsenal manager has been raving about the 20-year-old’s start to the current campaign.
The comments come after Guendouzi came of age in the North London derby prior to the international break.
Arsenal trailed Tottenham 2-0 but as a driving presence in midfield, Guendouzi pulled the Gunners from the depths of despair with a performance that belied his tender years.
Emery told Arsenal TV: “This year, I think he’s taken one step ahead, improving and also giving us one level more in his performances. We want to continue with him, working in each training session and in each match.
“For other younger players, his spirit, his progress, his development is a good example, for Willock, for Emile Smith Rowe, for Reiss Nelson. It’s a very good example for everybody.”
Guendouzi arrived at the Emirates Stadium last summer for £8 million, according to Sky Sports. During his first season in the Premier League, the £40,000-a-week (Spotrac) youngster played 48 games in all competitions.
TBR Verdict – Guendouzi looking a real find for Arsenal
In four games this season the long-haired midfield magician has shown that the fee which the Gunners parted with to secure his services could soon look like a steal.
Against Spurs he was sensational and he was deservedly called up the senior France squad for the very first time.
Arsenal signed a plethora of new players during the summer but with doubts over Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park, Guendouzi is quickly becoming one of Arsenal’s most important players.
