Arsenal are ready to offload Mesut Ozil after star misses Liverpool clash

Arsenal are reportedly willing to offload Mesut Ozil if a buyer can be found.

The experienced playmaker was as a relatively peripheral figure in north London last term.

Seemingly not fancied by Unai Emery, he was often left on the bench as the Gunners chief looked to make his mark.

Rumours have been rife that a departure might be on the cards – but offers haven’t been forthcoming.

Ozil earns a staggering £350,000-a-week which is a stretch for even Europe’s elite clubs.

The 30-year-old was snapped training with his team-mates for the first time last week after robbers targeted him and Sead Kolasinac.

He has not featured for Arsenal this season amid concerns for his safety.

He wasn’t named in the squad to face Liverpool although was fully fit.

According to football.london , there’s been no formal move to place Ozil on the transfer list.

However, the club are keen to get him off the books if a suitor can be found.

Nevertheless, with the European transfer deadline now just a few days away, a January exit looks more realistic.

MLS outfit DC United has been touted as a possible destination with Wayne Rooney leaving the club in the next few months.

In Ozil’s absence on Saturday, Arsenal were battered 3-1 by Liverpool at Anfield.

Despite the humbling, Emery was keen to focus on the positives.

“I think we showed character when we were losing 3-0 and not going down,” he said.

“We scored one goal but really we were looking forward for chances to score.

“In the first half it was the same. We did more in transition than other tactical actions, but also in the transition here against Liverpool we (need to) take chances we made.

“In the second half the match changed. In the first half for example we didn’t do one offensive corner, but in the second half we took four of five.

“I think this is when the match can change because really the result was good for them and they gave us space to do more possession and to be closer to their box, but I think we made some steps ahead for our next matches. Today we showed something.”

Arsenal are expected to lose at least one other player before the end of the week.

Nacho Monreal is on the cusp of joining Real Sociedad after agreeing terms with the La Liga side.
