A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to laud Matteo Guendouzi’s performance during the Gunners’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.
Unai Emery’s men looked to be heading for another frustrating domestic result. Villa took the lead and Ainsley Maitland-Niles had been sent off for the home side before the break.
And within one minute of Nicolas Pepe equalising for Arsenal, Wesley put the visitors back in front. But the Gunners fought back in some style.
Calum Chambers took advantage of some sloppy Villa defending to equalise in the final 10 minutes. And Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the winner with a brilliant free-kick.
Guendouzi’s display was a catalyst for the comeback. The 20-year-old was poor in the first-half, but he turned his performance around in some style after the break.
He won the penalty that Pepe converted, and set Chambers up for the chance that would ultimately lead to their second goal.
Whoscored.com shows that no player on the pitch completed more successful passes than the Frenchman. He made 73 successful passes during the game, 19 more than anyone else.
And the Arsenal supporters on Twitter have lauded the youngster – who cost just £7 million, according to Goal – with many suggesting that he was the game-changer. Plenty said that he was the one who dragged Emery’s side towards the dramatic win.
Here is what some of the Gunners supporters made of Guendouzi’s performance…

Guendouzi’s development is really incredible to watch. Dragged us back into the game today. He still makes mistakes and has plenty to work on but at 20 years old he’s got tons of quality and the attitude to match

I lied, I have one last thing to say. Guendouzi was a monster today. An absolute beast. He’s been fantastic all year and I can’t believe he’s ours.
