Report: Arsenal turn attention to £100k-a-week star, he would be ‘keen’ to discuss move

Arsenal are reportedly eyeing Manchester City’s John Stones in the January transfer window.

According to the Sun, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has made the 25-year-old a top transfer target.

It is understood that the defender wants to be playing regular football to try get into the England squad for the summer’s European Championships.

The report details that Stones would be “keen” to discuss a potential move to the Emirates Stadium, even if it’s only on a loan basis.

Arteta worked with the centre-back when he was previously assistant boss at Manchester City and is now considering bringing him to North London.

TBR’s View:

Stones has had a tough time with Manchester City this season, with injuries and form disrupting him.

But the ball-playing defender has shown in the past that he can be quality at the top level, as he’s earned 39 senior caps for England and also won back-to-back Premier League titles.

He desperately needs to get back to regular minutes on the pitch and it doesn’t look like Pep Guardiola fancies him.

Stones, who earns £100,000-a-week (Spotrac), will be very familiar to Arteta and it would be intriguing to see them reunited.

Arsenal could do with a centre-back addition during the January window, but Stones would be a gamble given his inconsistent and he can lose focus at times.
