Another underwhelming start to the season has led to many speculating an exit could be on the cards, given he is no longer a regular starter under Diego Simeone.
Thomas Lemar will not leave Atletico Madrid this month, according to club’s chief executive
But Atletico chief executive, Miguel Angel Gil Marin, has insisted the midfielder is going nowhere midway through the season.
‘Lemar is not for sale. There is no way that he will leave,’ Gil Marin is quoted as saying.
Bayern entered the race to sign Lemar on Tuesday. German outlet Bild reported: ‘As long as the transfer window is open, all options for Bayern are open’, in relation to the wide man.
If Atletico were to consider selling Lemar they would want to recoup as much of the £52million fee they paid in 2018 as possible.
Lemar has failed to live up to expectation since arriving from Monaco in the summer of 2018
And Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic views him as a viable option, although Bayern’s first choice remains Manchester City winger Leroy Sane.
Lemar, meanwhile, last scored for Atletico eight months ago and has been on a miserable run of form.
He was left out of the squad entirely who drew 0-0 against second-bottom Leganes in La Liga on Sunday having missed training through illness in the week.
Arsenal were keen on Lemar before he joined Atletico and have revived that interest in recent weeks.
