Wenger was in charge of some other excellent sides at Arsenal, including the double-winning teams of 1997-98 and 2001-02.
However, the Frenchman was quick to hail the Invincibles, who went the whole season without losing a league game, when pressed on what his greatest ever team was.
Arsene Wenger has named the Invincibles side from 2003-04 as his greatest Arsenal team
As reported by The Metro, Wenger said: ‘You would say the Invincibles – it’s an easy question to answer.
‘My dream was always to play a season without losing a game so I cannot go against that.’
Wenger added that the defence from the 1997-98 side was of a particularly high standard.
He said: ‘But as well I must say I inherited a team of men when I came to Arsenal – this was the team that won in 98.
‘Adams, Bould, Winterburn, Keown, Dixon that was the core of the team. It was branded Arsenal players who were ready to die for the club.
Arsenal managed to go the entire Premier League season without losing in 2003-04
‘You could go after the game in the fight in the corridors you would know they would not leave you alone – this was the type of players I had at the start.
‘They were ready to go to war with you, you could be in the trenches with them.’
Wenger stated that the players from the 2003-04 side also had much in the way of charisma.
He said: ‘Afterwards the second generation of players who had as well exceptional charisma. We speak a lot about the first generation but the other defence of Lauren, Campbell, Toure and Ashley Cole were exceptional with Lehmann in goal- they were characters.
‘At the end of the day when you look back you feel when you get that right – the personalities – you are ready to go anywhere in the world. These teams had charisma.’
In addition to the defenders that Wenger mentioned, the 2003-04 side had a stellar midfield, comprised of Freddie Ljungberg, Patrick Vieira, Gilberto and Robert Pires as well as attackers such as Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Jose Reyes.
