Arsenal are poised to recall Eddie Nketiah from Leeds in January ahead of arranging a new loan for the young striker.
Nketiah joined Marcelo Bielsa’s side on a season-long loan in August. The 20 year-old has scored five goals for Leeds despite just two of his 13 appearances being starts.
All 11 of his Championship appearances have been off the bench as he has played second fiddle to Patrick Bamford.
Arsenal are set to recall young striker Eddie Nketiah from his loan spell at Leeds in January
Nketiah has missed the last month with an abdominal injury but the Gunners had been angered by his lack of action long before he was sidelined.
They had already communicated their disappointment to Leeds earlier this season though seen his situation fail to improve since raising their concerns.
Nketiah’s time at Elland Road is now likely to be cut short and a second loan move lined up.
Bristol City, who wanted Nketiah in the summer, are expected to revive their interest having loaned Benik Afobe from Stoke in the summer, only to see him quickly suffer a long-term knee injury.
The Gunners are set to sanction another loan move for the England Under-21 international
Freddie Ljungberg, Arsenal’s interim manager, who coached Nketiah last season in his role with the club’s under-23s, hinted at the Gunners’ displeasure with England under-21 striker’s situation.
He said: ‘I need to be careful [what I say] but I think Eddie is a great player. If he goes on loan we want him to play football and get minutes otherwise they can maybe be here.
‘I feel a bit sorry for him because he is a great player and the future of this club. When he has had his chance he scores goals and that’s what he is about.’
